Harry Mason and his adopted daughter Cheryl are on their way to a family vacation in the resort town of Silent Hill when a mysterious figure walks into the road. Startled by the dark figure suddenly silhouetted in his headlights Harry panics, jerking the steering wheel, and sends his jeep careening through a guardrail and off the road. Harry wakes to find his jeep has come to rest just inside the town of Silent Hill and Cheryl is missing from the passenger seat. Worried for his daughter’s safety, Harry heads into the town to find her; instead he finds a deep rooted evil that pervades the misty town of Silent Hill and somehow ties to his daughter’s disturbing past.

Conceived by game designer, Keiichiro Toyama, Silent Hill was released in 1999 for the Sony Playstation as a third-person adventure game. Told from Harry’s perspective, it starts with his arrival to Silent Hill and follows him as he searches for his missing daughter.

Konami Silent Hill "Menko Stadium" Cards (JPN)
Product: Menko Cards
Released: 2001 in Japan
Catalogue #: N/A
Purchased: USED, June 2009
Where: ebay.com
#51-#52 Menko cards from the Konami's "Menko Stadium" set that features characters from various Konami products including Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill. There are 10 different Silent Hill Menko cards numbered #51-60 in this set featuring two characters from Silent Hill and eight from Silent Hill 2. #51 is a foil menko card and features Harry with a lead pipe on the front and a black and white photo of Harry and his late wife holding baby Cheryl from the Silent Hill opening on the back. #52 is a normal menko card and features an cgi shot of Cybil from theopening on the front and a shot of Cybil sitting on her bike on the back.

Menko is a very old Japanese card game that was popular since the Edo period and played by two or more players. One player places a thick cardboard menko card on hardwood or concrete floor and the other player throws down his/her card, trying to flip the other player's card with a gust of wind or by striking his/her card against the other card. If he/she is sucessful they get to keep both cards. The player who takes all the cards or the has the most cards at the game's end wins. The game is pretty much just like "pogs" that was popular when I was ten years old!

To see the rest of the Silent Hill menko set check out my Silent Hill 2 section!
